The Safety and Accountability Audit is an assessment and planning tool developed in 1996 by Praxis International. It is a systematic way of analyzing how local institutional interventions in domestic violence cases can effectively incorporate safety and accountability into workers daily routines and practices. The Audit provides a method for inter agency teams to ask: "If we were to design an intervention with the unique aspects of domestic violence cases in mind, what would we do differently?"
Communities planning or implementing Audit projects can receive individual support in:
- Developing a budget and work plan
- Articulating the Audit’s goals and outcomes
- Determining the scope of your Audit
- Formulating your Audit question
- Fitting the basic elements of an Audit to the needs and politics of your community
- Organizing and motivating your Audit team
- Strategizing an Audit work-plan
- Gaining cooperation and participation from agency directors
- Developing a strategy for data collection and analysis
- Conducting focus groups that frame an Audit team’s analysis
